~~errata: The original pattern had an error that has been corrected as of 11/30/19; if you download v2 of the pattern, you are getting the correct one.
~After the second (cresting waves) chart, you should knit 2 rounds in the main color before proceeding to the decrease section.~

This pattern reminds me of winter waves, which can be cold and brilliant here in Door County, bordered by Lake Michigan and the waters of Green Bay. On a sunny winter day, this hat of Merino wool will keep your head stylishly warm.

This Warm Winter Wave Hat is made using Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal Worsted in the following colors: Stormy (MC), Bonsai (CC1), Maritime (CC2), and Duchess (CC3). Less than 1 skein of each color is needed.

I use US size 4 and US size 6 needles, but I am a very loose knitter and usually go down 2 needle sizes to get gauge. Based on that, the average knitter may want to try US 6 and US 8 sizes.

The hat at this gauge creates a good fit for a medium adult head. The corrugated ribbing and stranded patterning can reduce the amount of stretch, so to fit a larger head, CO 96 stitches and proceed through the ribbing. Before starting the charts, knit a round in CC1 in which you increase 3 stitches evenly around, to proceed with 99 stitches.

Enjoy your creation, and please link your finished projects here. I’d love to see them!
