Once a good Wizard and trusted confidant of Gandalf’s, Saruman the White was the head of the Istari Order. Originally opposing Sauron and his possession of the One Ring, Saruman’s knowledge of dark magic and hunger for power led to his eventual alliance with evil. Fueled by the desire to obtain the One Ring for himself, or at least become Sauron’s right hand, he gives control of Isengard to Mordor, and the Watchful Eye of Sauron. Aided by Orcs, he destroys the natural beauty of Nan Curunír digging for Uruk-hai.

Rule over Isengard in these stranded colorwork mittens illustrating Barad-dûr, or the Dark Tower, holding the Eye of Sauron aloft on the hand side. Beginning with a 1x1 twisted ribbed cuff, the palm side has vertical striping with an afterthought thumb positioned with waste yarn. Once the body of the mitten is complete, stitches are picked up and knit for the thumb.
