Overlay Mosaic Crochet

Inspired by the wildlife around river banks, ponds and lakes, Waterside was designed as a 7-part CAL, worked using overlay mosaic crochet, and finished off with a narrow but pretty envelope border to hide the loose ends.

The CAL is now over, so all the individual files for the separate parts have been removed, and replaced by a single combined file.

If you are unfamiliar with mosaic crochet, or the envelope border, don’t worry, they are much easier to do than they look, and step by step instructions are given.
You will only be using 1 colour for each row.

Each part includes a clear, marked chart, full written instructions, and lots of supporting photos.

The design mainly uses the basic mosaic crochet stitches (US sc in BLO and dc in FLO), but I have also included a few new special stitches to make selected parts a little more prominent (the duck bills, and rowing boats under the bridge) … don’t worry though, these are explained in detail, and video tutorials are also available from my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/RosinaCrochets

The pattern is written for a single size (approximately 88 x 118 cm), and yarn packs are available for this size (links to some stockists are at the end of this listing).

The pattern also includes additional information to enable you to easily make a different size (just start with a multiple of 48 + 6 chains).
You can also adjust the length of your project by repeating your favourite parts, or skipping others.

The 48-stitch repeat also makes Waterside easy to combine with many of my other mosaic crochet designs, including Fairy Dust, Flora’s Fauna, Letitia’s Garden, Spring Into Easter and Beside the Seaside.

For those of you wanting to make a larger blanket, Jane Reid made a beautiful 197-st wide version, incorporating the gauge swatch, and a row of daisies and the border from Fairy Dust.
There is no yarn pack for this, but I have included instructions in a bonus file.
Please note to make Jane’s combo blanket you will need to have purchased Fairy Dust separately.

Lefthander-friendly
As all parts are symmetrical, there are no additional charts or instructions for lefthanders, but there will be lefthanded versions of all videos.

To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in my ’Universal’ terms (I developed these terms for the Jacquard Temperature Blanket and have also used them in all my subsequent overlay mosaic crochet CALs and patterns).
