Notes
The shawl is knit sideways on the bias, starting at the top right
corner, with increases along the beginning of the row to shape
the triangle. The body of the shawl is knit in Stockinette Brioche with two contrasting shades. Increases and decreases create the intersecting diagonal lines.
A border in Garter stitch surrounds the entire shawl to anchor the fabric, an I-Cord edge adds a neat finish.
Stockinette Brioche is a variation of Brioche stitch, whereby
Brioche knit stitches are worked on both passes of the right-side row, and Brioche purl stitches are worked on both passes of the wrong-side row, creating a vertically striped Stockinette-like fabric when worked with two colors.
While Stockinette Brioche is not a reversible stitch pattern, the
reverse side offers textural interest and contrasts beautifully with the crisp stripes on the front.
Each row is worked twice, switching colors after each pass: After working one RS row with A, slide stitches to the other tip of the circular needles and work a second RS row with B. Then turn your work and work a WS row with A, then slide stitches to the other tip of the circular needles again and work a second WS row with B. The color you need to work with is indicated in the row number. Count Sl1YO as one stitch and the two passes of each row count as one full row.
A border in garter stitch is worked around the shawl, I-Cord edges create a neat finish.
