“Wave was inspired by the patterns in the water in Houton Bay, Orkney. On the rare occasion when the sea is calm and flat, the wake from the nearby ferries comes in to the bay in a really uniform rhythm with shallow peaks almost strobing along the surface of the water. This project takes you back to knitting flat again, required to provide a fluid drape around the shoulders and grafted to create a continuous loop. It has quite a large pattern repeat, which is uncommon in hand knitting but gives you a striking result.”
