A friend introduced me to the ‘Wavelettes’ stitch pattern in the spring of 2025, and I knew right away that it was meant for a moebius cowl. Around that same time, The Fibre Co. was developing their new yarn, Transitions.

For this design, I chose to use Amble fingering-weight yarn for its next-to-skin softness. Pairing Amble’s Blencathra colorway creates subtle striping throughout the cowl. Vertical stockinette striping in the facing highlights the shifting gradient of Transitions. A clean i-cord edging adds polish, and the i-cord tassels add a touch of whimsy.

In addition to the pattern, kits are available on the website in six different colorways. Although each colorway has it’s own personality, I chose to make the sample with ‘Auroral Flux’ to give to my daughter. The shifting shades from dusky lavender to gray-blue and shell pink combined with the stitch pattern reflect the patterns of sun and shade on drifting snow that she loves so much.

The techniques used include:

  • Moebius cast on I-cord bind off
  • Provisional Cast On (crochet or other cast on)
  • Grafting with Kitchener stitch
  • Whip stitch sewing technique

The moebius is knit first. Then a long 4.5” facing strip is knit in stockinette. The facing strip is attached by picking up a selvedge stitch while working the i-cord bind off. Finally, the facing is whip-stitched all along the center of the moebius, so that only the public-facing sides of the moebius and facing remain visible.
