Wavy Granny Placemat
Description:
A Wavy Granny placemat is a two-color crochet placemat worked in alternating stripes of contrasting colors, featuring a rhythmic wavy stitch pattern.
The stitch pattern is based on the classic Granny stitch, but with a little twist, it gives the fabric more texture and fewer holes.
The border around the mat gives a finishing touch and hides floats created by color changes.
Skills:
Basic crochet stitches (sl st, ch, sc, hdc, dc), making a few sts in the same space, special spike stitch works like dc but in a different spot from usual dc.
Materials:
Yarn: Worsted or aran weight cotton yarn in 2 contrast colors.
For one placemat: C1: 140 yds (125 m), C2: 175 yds (160 m).
Sample made with I Love This Cotton!, 100% cotton, 180 yds (165 m)/3.5 oz (100 g), colors 98-Bright Teal (C1) and 6-White (C2).
Hook: size 4.5mm
Notions: tapestry needle, scissors
Gauge:
16 sts x 13 rows = 4x4” (10x10 cm) in Granny Spike stitch pattern, blocked.
The exact gauge is not crucial, but a different gauge will affect finished measurements and yarn usage.

Width 13.5” (34 cm)
