Featuring a geometric pattern, this stranded colourwork hat with a ribbed brim has an easy repeat with very minimal float management. The design tapers to a soft top that looks great with or without a pompom. With written instructions and an easy-to-follow chart, this pattern will help you create a cosy hat.

Written for worsted weight yarn, this pattern will also work with DK yarn held double.

Finished Sizes

Height with folded or short brim:
approx 21cm / 8.25”

Circumference:
approx 55cm / 21.5”

(note that your size may vary with gauge and yarn)

Gauge
19stitches x 20 rows, in colourwork, in the round, blocked.

YOU’LL NEED:
Yarn:
Two colours in worsted weight yarn, measuring approximately:

MC: 55m / 60yd
CC: 45m / 50yd
plus
Long/folded brim: 40m/45yd
Short brim: 20m/25yd

You can also use DK weight yarn held double, but you will need double the length.

Needles:
5.5mm (US 9) circular needles, or size needed to achieve gauge in colourwork, blocked
4.5mm (US 7) circular needles for ribbing, or 2 sizes smaller than main needle
→ 60cm/24” long, or longer and use travelling loop method
the travelling loop/magic loop method will be used as the crown decreases are worked

Stitch markers:
8, including a unique one for start of round

Pompom if desired, or enough yarn to make a matching one.
