I love ribbing. It creates fabric that is like a perfect hug: it can get very close to my skin but at the same time it leaves me as much space to breathe as I need. And doesn’t a good hug have some colour? Two beautiful yarns are hugging each other in this shawl. Now think of your best friend hugging you — what colours come to your mind?

Knitting starts with just a few stitches, and smartly placed increases and decreases give the shawl the asymmetric curved triangle shape. The shawl is worked sideways in one piece. The second colour is used without breaking yarn. The size of the shawl can be easily customized as it can be bound off on every eighth row.

For information about sizes, measurements and yarn requirements, please check the second page of the pattern located among the photos on the left.

Skein Yarn put together 20 yarn combinations (using three of their favourite bases) to help with choosing colours. See in the photo on the left. Gorgeous, aren’t they? See the yarns in their store.

I asked test knitters what they would like to tell about the pattern and the finished cowl to other knitters and here are some of their answers:

klementine A really nice shawl with perfect drape. Depending on the yarn choice it can be used as a warm winter shawl or a light summer shawl.

Kbhallman This is good tv knitting. You could use mini skeins or scraps for the striped portion. This pattern will work for any weight of yarn.

allisongibbs A beautiful shawl from an easy to follow pattern with excellent charts and attention to detail.

infusionn Great pattern, a real pleasure to knit and an adorable result.

sanita60 It was an absolute pleasure to knit. This was an easy pattern to remember but you do have to pay attention to which row you are on.

bufknitter This pattern combines increases and decreases, ribbing, lace and garter stripes to keep things interesting while still knitting up a beautiful shawl. It was the perfect pattern to highlight a fantastic solid colored yarn.
