The Weatherly Mittens are vintage-style, fulled mitts designed for cold days and snowball fights.

The mittens work up quickly, making them a perfect, thoughtful gift. They will fit with a little bit of room around the hand (this can be controlled with the amount of fulling) which creates a warmer overall mitten than one that fits tightly. The fulling process is variable – many factors can influence the outcome. It’s recommended that you knit a swatch and do a test wash to see how well your yarn performs. If it shrinks significantly, one wash (or even a partial wash) will likely be enough. If it doesn’t shrink as much as you’d like, you can continue washing and drying it until you get a better fit.

Sizes
One size (women’s medium/large)

Supplies
• 200 yards Jamieson Aran 50g/101 yards per ball
• US Size 10/6mm DPNs
• Lightweight wool for embroidery (rustic red, green, charcoal)
• Transfer paper that dissolves in water
• Darning needle to weave in ends
• Large eye embroidery needle
• Stitch markers

Gauge 14.5 st and 19 rows over 4” (approx.) Finished size 12” top to bottom, 4 ¼“ wide side to side (approx.)

Important: Do not use wool that has been bleached (cream/white wools are generally bleached so check the label). This inhibits the ability for wool to shrink during fulling.
