This beautiful embroidery motif is one of many that I have designed to bring color, depth and dimension to crocheted fabric. For now, I am offering a free crochet design when you purchase four or more motifs.

To receive the Double the Fun cowl, enter DOUBLETHEFUN at checkout.
To receive My Crocheted Cowl Canvas, enter CROCHETCANVAS at checkout.

You must enter the code to receive the discount. All motifs and your design of choice must be placed in your cart at the same time in order for the code to work. No refunds will be given after the fact.

I am teaching classes on this technique, as well as the addition of embroidery to stockinette. For my class schedule, please visit my website, www.bloomhandmadestudio.com. The instructions for the Chevrons, Stair Steps, Wedding Rings and Bird’s Eye motifs will be included in the course.

Single crochet (in US terms)/double crochet (in UK terms) is a wonderful stitch that is easy to learn, simple to work and beautiful to behold. But best of all among its many terrific attributes is the fact it that evolves into a perfect grid for embroidery! This document contains a pattern for a beautiful embroidery motif and a simple coaster on which to practice it.

I chose a DK weight cotton to design my embroidery motifs, but the technique looks beautiful on many different fibers. If you opt for a different yarn, I recommend choosing something with a high twist and a light color for the coaster. It is not critical that you achieve exact gauge for the project, but the stitches of your coaster should be taut enough to support your embroidery. The embroidery will be easier to visualize if you opt for a solid or semi-solid, light MC and a high contrast CC.

I have recorded a podcast demonstrating how to crochet this coaster. Please visit the Bloom Handmade Studio YouTube channel for step-by-step directions, including timestamps by component in the show notes.
