This desisgn is inspired by my lovely new daughter-in-law, Emily, and I decided to officially welcome her into our family by using her as the inspiration for my next design in my Family of Women Series. She and my son Chris married on June 27, 2014, and as I watched my son marry it made me think of the the continuous movement of the generations through the Circle of Life. Thus I decided that Emily’s shawl should be a circular one, and what better way to celebrate the love that brought her and my son together than by designing a shawl featuring eternal symbols of that love - diamonds, roses, and hearts.

This design is a Pi shawl with charted instructions. The shawl in the photo has a diameter of approximately 36” and can be worn like a capelet. The yarn I used to make this shawl, Superfine Airy Breath of the Wind, is a lovely yarn and can be purchased at www.alpacathewayitshouldbe.com. You can, of course, use any lace or fingering weight yarn, or if you would like to make a larger shawl it would be equally lovely knit in sport, DK or worsted weight yarn with larger needles.

I hope that you enjoy knitting this shawl for one of the lovely women in your life - which may, of course, include yourself!
