The pillow was knit long ways, from left to right in order to make transitioning between the colors easier. In order to make the pillow work a little better I added five rows of all black on either side and four extra rows of black on the top and bottom. The back was knit separately and is a simple scarf pattern (slip 1 then k1 p1 to end) which was then crocheted together with the front and stuffed.

Well Captain_Rachel stopped by the station today and dropped off a frankly quite amazing pillow along with a chart to ensure that others can create a similar pillow or other knitted object which can be used to welcome new neighbors to our small desert community and/or to comfort yourself in the dead of night when the vast infinity of the cosmos presses in on all sides.
