This reversible edging from 1889 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 2 starts with 16 stitches and has 8 pattern rows. With no image in Weldon’s, I didn’t know what I’d get! I fixed a couple of errors and changed a few stitches to make sewing easier but this was a pleasure to knit. A lot of the main section is symmetrical, making it easier to work and there’s never more than 19 stitches in any row.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, slip, yarn over, yarn over twice, k2tog, SK2P (sl1-k2tog-PSSO) and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

4 yards will make about 18 rows (1.5 inches) in the stated gauge with #10 crochet cotton thread.
