Carolyn Wyborny’s ingenious and lovely shawl shown with the engraving for the French Trellis Border from Weldon’s Practical Knitter Edgings, Fourteenth Series, published in London in 1890 (and compiled in Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 5). The engraving of the border captured Carolyn’s fancy; the result is this shawl.

Materials

The Fibre Co. Meadow, 40% merino/25% baby llama/20% silk/15% linen yarn, heavy laceweight, 545 yard (498.3 m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 2 skeins of Red Clover

Needles, size 6 (4 mm) circ 32 inches (80 cm) or longer to accommodate large number of sts
