The Westboro hat is a simple design I came up with while making hats for a local charity. I fell in love with it, so I had to knit a second, a third and a fourth one! It is a hat to wear on cool autumn, winter, or spring days depending on where you live.
This is a simple hat design using sport weight yarn, either superwash or non-superwash, or light fingering yarn held double with laceweight mohair.

MATERIALS & INFO
Yarn: About 175 yards or about 0.5 to 0.7 skeins of superwash sport weight yarn
Samples used:
Yellow/green version:Yarn Daze in Prairie Sport in “Harvest”
Pink version: Julie Asselin Journey Sport
White version: Hedgerow Yarns, Merino 500 (OOAK) and Drops Kid-Silk in cream
Yarn substitutions: if you are a mohair lover, try one strand of lace weight or light fingering weight held double with mohair; non-superwash would work as well
Gauge: Gauge does not matter much in this hat. What you want is a comfortable fabric and slouch. The gauge obtained is about 5.5 or 5.75 stitches and about 7.5 rows per inch when hat is laid flat.
Needles:
3.25mm 16-inch circular needles, or double pointed needles (DPNs) (IF you are a tight knitter consider sizing up to a 3.5mm for the brim)
4mm 16-inch circular needles, or double pointed needles (DPNs)
For the crown, you can use DPNs, or choose a longer cabled 4mm needle to magic loop.
Notions
Stitch marker, tapestry needle
Finished size
One size to fit an average sized head (21-23 inches), with total length of about 9 inches
