Westport Pullover
The Westport Pullover is an allover cable knit pullover and is completely inspired by the classic Irish Aran knit sweaters. It has the look of a pullover than is meant to be worn when wandering around the Irish countryside, yet has the spirit of a hard-wearing work garment due to the chosen yarn. The pullover is worked top-down and in the round once the front and back are joined. The construction is a modified dropped shoulder, with short-row shoulder shaping for a more modern fit.
Sizes
There are nine sizes in total and the pullover is meant to have 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 in) of positive ease. The finished pullover’s bust measurements are:
- 100 (110) 120 (130) 140 (150) 160 (170) 180 cm
- 40 (44) 48 (52) 56 (60) 64 (68) 72 in
Gauge
The gauge is 10 x 10 cm (2.5 x 2.5 in) = 16.5 stitches x 28 rows in Irish Moss stitch on 5 mm needles.
Yarn
This pattern asks for a non-superwash light Bulky-weight wool yarn that makes a nice fabric in this gauge. Make sure to keep an eye of the density of the fabric, as this design requires a pretty dense fabric. The sample used Kelbourne Woolens Erin in the colour Copper 803.
The yarn requirements are around 690 (750) 800 (860) 1000 (1075) 1150 (1250) 1300 gr of Kelbourne Woolens Erin (100 gr = 145 m).
Needles Used
