This shawl was inspired by the one that Claire Randall wears in the Outlander TV series on Starz. (Saturdays, 9 PM) The original shawl was made in three colors. I chose to do mine with only two. This shawl isn’t an exact replica, but inspired by, Or rather my “take” on it.

I named this pattern “When In Scotland,” as a play on the phrase “When in Rome…” Claire has time-traveled to a different time. When stuck in Scotland in the early 1740’s, you dress and act like the locals, as much as possible.

This shawl is easily customize-able. You can use as many colors as you wish. Stripe it, solid color, rainbow, whatever. You can also make the shawl larger by continuing the increases on every right side row. If you choose to make the shawl larger, you will need more yarn.

You may use any weight yarn for this shawl. Make sure you use needles that are at least two sizes larger than what the ball band calls for. The yardage will be different with different yarns, adjust accordingly.

This shawl is knit entirely in Garter Stitch. No purling.

Special Stitches: KF&B = Knit into the front and back of the same stitch.

I made this shawl free for any and all Outlander fans to enjoy.

Happy Knitting!
