This crochet pattern works up quickly to make a whimsical heart wall hanging. This pretty crochet wall art is a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, baby showers or birthdays.

While the wall hangings shown in the photos are made using DK/8ply weight cotton yarn, the pattern includes detailed instructions for making a tension gauge swatch for any yarn, so that the design will look good in whatever yarn weight you use (just choose a yarn with mostly natural fibre, such as cotton or wool, so it responds well to blocking. And detailed blocking instructions are provided in the pattern, too!)

PATTERN DETAILS:
The pattern is written in English using UK crochet terminology. Pattern includes detailed instructions including instructional photos.

SIZE
Using 8ply/DK yarn, to measure approximately 12cm x 40cm/5in x 16in (including tassels)

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate (Listed as ‘intermediate’ simply because stitching around wooden dowels can be a little challenging at first. It should be achievable for an experienced beginner willing to stretch their skills!)

YARN: 40m of 8ply/DK yarn in a natural fibre (i.e. cotton or wool), or follow pattern instructions to adapt to different yarn weights. Suggested yarn: Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton 8ply, 485m per 200g ball. Colours used in photos: Pomegranate 819, & Pretty Pink 873.
Note, the yarn recommended above is on thinner end of the ‘DK/8ply’ size range, so keep this in mind if you wish to use a different brand yarn to achieve a similar look.

OTHER MATERIALS: 2 thin wooden dowels, 15cm/6in long. If you are using a thicker weight yarn, you may need longer dowels. Optional: small square of quilting cotton to use as a backing

HOOK SIZE: 2mm, or size to obtain gauge.

OTHER TOOLS: blocking is essential. I recommend you have a foam mat and rust proof pins (detailed blocking instructions are provided).
