This pattern is designed for the narrow head and deep chest of the sighthound breeds. The sweater is knit flat in two pieces (chest and back) and then seamed. The chest comes in three sizes (S for Italian greyhounds and similarly sized breeds, M for whippets, and L for greyhounds) and the back comes in nine sizes based on the dog’s girth. Instructions here are for a solid-colored sweater, however, the pattern can also be worked in stripes of many colors. If you choose a striped design, knitting the neck and the chest piece in the same color makes it more consistent when seaming the sweater.

Skill level: beginner – only knit and purl stitches used.

Materials needed: 100% washable acrylic worsted weight yarn, size 7 needles, row counter, tapestry needle
