Whirligig is a really simple garter stitch crescent/spiral shaped scarf. The crescent/spiral shape is formed by simple yarn forward increases ( or yarn over, yarn round needle ) knit 2 together and casting off decreases. Stripes add a bit of interest and accentuate the shape ( I used 3 colours ) or you could knit in one colour or go crazy with lots of colours!! The scarf starts at one end with 4 stitches and widens by 1 stitch every 4 rows to 50 stitches, then back down to 4 stitches at the other end. I used DK yarn and 4mm needles, but you can use any weight yarn and needle size. The scarf can be wrapped around as a neck warmer, or the ends left loose and allowed to spiral.
