I found myself to be the lone costume designer for a school production of “The Seussical”. I saw some really bright and soft fun fur yarn at my local yarn shop, All Points Yarn, in Des Moines, Washington, and I knew that this yarn needed to be in the play. I had 10 Whos to make costumes for and this pattern was made for them.

There are four different Who hats in this pattern, to cover a variety of looks, both male and female.

Knitting from the top down. I used the Magic Loop method using 40” circular needles. I found that once I knew that 54 stitches around fit most kids, this project became fun and free form.

Yarn: 2 skeins-Supersoft Fur-Kuka Yarns, 88 yds/80 m, 100% Polyamide.
1 skein-Uptown Worsted by Universal, 180 yds/165 m, OR 1 skein Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand, 170 yds/156 m. These two yarns (the fun fur and the plain acrylic) are knit as one.

Gauge: 3.5 stitches per inch or 14 stitches per 10 cm
To fit heads: 21”-23” (53-58 cm)

Needles: 40”-US#10.5 (6.50 mm), 40”-US #10 (6.00 mm), 24” US #9 (5.50 mm), one set of US#10.5 (6.50 mm) double points

Notions: 4 stitch markers, a styrofoam head for fitting, 1 yd/1 m of acrylic yarn of a contrasting color for false stitches, small amounts of fiber fill.
