Wild Bight

All 8 colours of the Jamieson & Smith 2025 Colourbox colours inspired this sweater. It was an incredibly colourful Colourbox this year and I immediately thought “crayola” and it brought to mind the community called Wild Bight on our amazing island of Newfoundland. Wild Bight used to be home to a paint mine ~ Leah Layden’s Paint Mine ~ a perfectly matched inspirational source for this cardigan celebrating this year’s colourbox. Vertical panels adorn the front and mimic the characteristic curved recesses of coastlines known as bights. Wild Bight is a bight of the wild and a landscape for you to play with colour.

Wild Bight is a top-down, modified drop-shoulder cardigan with a nifty construction at the cast on and a built-in facing at the open Fronts. The body is worked top down and in the round with steeks at each armhole and at the centre Front. The sleeves are picked up and worked in the round.

To find your needle size, you need to swatch.
1x1 stranded colourwork checkered patterning: 30 sts / 30 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size B needles

Needles

The gauge was achieved with the following needle size. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

You will also need:

a Size A or size B crochet hook to work a surface crochet along the shoulder seams; spare interchangeable cables or spare needles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers; scissors for steeking; crochet hook and suitable scrap yarn OR needle and thread OR sewing machine OR felting tool and board for reinforcing steeks.
