All that ruffle yarn! What were we thinking? Even the most sensible knitter has at least one skein of it languishing at the bottom of a plastic tub. Embarrassed? No need. Aunt Ninny rescues your naughty self and resurrects your ruffle yarn with this classy update of a fizzled fad.

A collar? A scarf? Actually, it’s both. Knitting Fever’s Monarch creates the gorgeous ruffled collar and Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca complements the ruffles with a narrow, rib-stitch scarf. Tie it in a bow for dressy occasions, or leave it loose for a casual look. Turn it around and let the ends trail down your back for an Izzy Duncan effect--just stay out of convertible roadsters. It’s easy, fast, and fun. Now amp up a boring old sweater and go win the party!

Scarf uses one full skein of Monarch (20 yds) and about 170 yds of the Ultra Alpaca. You can sub any worsted weight yarn for the Ultra Alpaca: Berroco Vintage or Cascade 220, perhaps? Monarch is a fairly thick, rustic ruffle yarn, so if you use something thinner, add a few extra stitches.
