This shawl is inspired by very special friends who have become an integral part of my life. One of these friends I met in a café and another answered a question on social media, and another attended a conference I was speaking at. Since then their relationship with me has become very much “the wind beneath my wings”. My hope is that we all have friends in our lives who mysteriously come into our lives and their relationship with us is magical. I have a dear friend since 1996 that has since then been the Wind Beneath My Wings – she has journeyed with me accepted me unconditionally without question, without judgement but with love trust and respect. Sabine is another, when I see her it is like we have known each other for years.

This shawl wraps around your shoulders full of texture and depth which represents different phases in relationships; the moments of laughter, the tears we have shed, the celebrations and the times when we have had to be the “wind beneath each other’s wings”! The shawl is very much about the depth of friendship that people can have as they accept each other unconditionally without question. I want to thank these women for they have journeyed with me throughout this project seeing it through to completion, in every phase. They have stuck with me, celebrated with me, and laughed with me when I wanted to put the project in the “naughty corner”. Isn’t that the nature of good solid friendships!

It is a beautiful 4ply wrap/shawl using two 100g skeins, different colours, suitable for either two solids, or one solid and one variegated. It is totally up to you whether you shorten or lengthen each section, you can vary it to suit you. There are no rules, just a basis for fantastic texture born out of love, respect and trust. I honour fantastic friendships and I thank those in my life who responded on social media and those who said, “Yes you can sit and have coffee with me!” You are wonderful people!
