When I sat down to design this pattern I wanted to go with a very classic, vintage feel hence the picot hem and tiny little cables. The name of the socks also needed to have a classic and vintage feel to it and so the name Winifred was suggested. Winifred is a Welsh name, that was very popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. It signifies “friend of peace” and it’s derived from the name Gwenfrewi.
