Reminiscent of winding water-ways covered with snow and ice. I love all the seasons yet there is something so magical about winter. The snow that blankets the earth for a long rest yet the river beneath the ice never ceases and reminds us that life continues even in the dark, quiet days of winter.

This pattern represents the first in a series of patterns integrating knitting and healthy living.

Each pattern in this series will include a knitted project, information on how to be more active via walking and a healthy recipe. As the walking program advances with forthcoming patterns, the knitting projects will take an increased amount of time, skill and/or focus.

Winter River includes:
Instructions for a knitted cowl in two options; a super bulky or sport weight version that is knit from end to end with an easy cable pattern that you can memorize after a few repeats. The sport weight version includes buttonholes that are worked with a simple yarn over. There are no buttonholes on the super bulky version; just push the buttons through the knit stitches.

Information about how to begin walking when you have not been active or how to reduce your sitting time throughout the day.

The recipe for “Winter River” is an easy to prepare, family favorite called “Chicken and White Bean Soup”. While the soup might not be your preferred entrée for the summer, tuck it away when cooler weather hits.

As for the cowl, the super bulky version is a quick knit and a small, portable project perfect for summer knitting. Want something that takes a little more time then opt for the sport weight version and have it finished just in time for fall. It will be here before we know it.

Knit one, walk two!
