Winter Sol Mittens & Mitts

Knitted from the cuff up, these cozy mittens feature an eye-catching decorative colorwork band that highlights the color changes and adds a lovely geometric detail to the design. The thumb is worked using an ergonomically shaped gusset to ensure a comfortable and snug fit around the hand.

This pattern is highly customizable: it includes three comprehensive sizes and offers full instructions to modify the design into fingerless mitts.

Yarn Requirements & Ideas:
The pattern uses a beautiful mix of Sport and DK weight yarns in 3 colors. You can easily use stash yarn or the suggested brands:

  • Sport weight option: Finkhof 100% Pure Virgin Wool (100 g = 300 m)

  • DK weight option: DROPS Lima (65% Wool, 35% Alpaca, 100 g = 200 m)

  • Approximate consumption ranges from 5 g for contrast accents up to 40 g for the main colors, depending on the size.

Gauge & Needles:

  • Suggested Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4) DPNs or circular needles for Magic Loop (switch to 4 mm / US 6 for the colorwork section if you knit tightly).

Sizes (Length / Circumference):

  • S (Children): 26 / 16 cm
  • M (Women, slender Men): 28 / 18 cm
  • L (Men): 30 / 22 cm

Techniques Used:

  • Knitting in the round (DPNs or Magic Loop)
  • Stranded colorwork (2 colors active)
  • Increases (kfb, m1L, m1R) and decreases (k2tog, ssk)
  • Kitchener Stitch / Grafting
