Trees in winter create distinctive lines which I found inspiring. The two colour brioche stitch creates a bouncy fabric which is both soft and warm.

It is knitted in the round from the bottom up starting with rounds of k1,p1 ribbing in the contrast colour before progressing to two colour brioche stitch.

Yarn: the whole hat only weighs 40 g so it is ideal for using up yarn rests. It would suit either two solid colours or one solid and one variegated yarn. I used baa ram ewe Titus but any sock yarn or 4 ply would be fine.
Needles: 3.75 mm circular needle. For sock yarn 3.5 mm might be better depending on gauge. For a hat the gauge is very important so please be sure to measure it before starting and adjust needle size accordingly.

The downloads include the pattern and instructions for finishing a child’s size hat as well as a photo tutorial to explain the techniques used in two colour brioche stitch.

Errata:
In chart B, repeat rows 5 and 6 twice more before continuing with row 7.
