And tulips, children love to stretch
Their fingers down, to feel in each
Its beauty’s secret nearer.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning,
“A Flower In A Letter“

This is a traditional stranded mitten using motifs from Dutch folk art. The mittens are knit at a fairly tight gauge for warmth and wind protection. Check gauge throughout project to avoid mismatched mittens! To increase size, simply adjust needles and/or yarn to adjust gauge.

You will need approximately 150 yards per colour (more if you use a bigger gauge to create a bigger mitten, or if you trap the strands frequently).

Special thanks to nocountyknitter, littlemarchhare, miterwriter and harmonise for their help!
