Winterfold Woods
The wooded hills of Winterfold are an area of outstanding natural beauty and inspriation for these snug socks. Wear them with your hiking boots to walk your local footpaths or simply put your feet up in front of the fire. Knit in seasonal colours they would make a fabulous Christmas Eve Cast-On.
Sizes
Small (Medium: Large: X-Large)
Actual circumference of sock after blocking 17.5 (19: 20: 21) cm / 7 (7¼: 7¾: 8¼)in
Choose a size about 10% smaller in circumference than the intended wearer’s leg or foot for best fit.
Gauge & Needles
There are two similar charts for the four sizes of Winterfold Woods: one chart for Small and Medium and one for Large and X-Large. These can be adjusted by using a smaller needle size for the smaller sock in the range. I used 2.25mm / US 1 needles for the whole of the Medium and X-Large socks and went down to a 2mm / US 0 needle for the charted section of the Small and Large sizes. However, many knitters go up a needle size for the colour work section.
34 sts and 50 rounds to 10cm / 4in worked over Stocking Stitch, using 2.25mm / US 1 needles,
32 sts and 39 rounds to 10cm / 4in over colourwork pattern, using 2.25mm / US 1 needles.
33 sts and 39 rounds to 10cm / 4in over colourwork pattern, using 2mm / US 0
Measure after blocking. You may need smaller or larger needles to match tension.
