Wintering Hat
Wintering is knit from the bottom up and features a large cable motif on a background of seed stitch that adds texture and interest to this pattern without feeling overwhelming.
The sample hat was knit in Brooklyn Tweed Quarry, which is a non superwash woolen spun yarn. This is a very warm and wooly yarn and it gives the hat a fair amount of structure. Other yarns of a similar weight could easily be substituted but keep in mind how differing yarn characteristics can affect the final product. For example, a superwash yarn is going to have less bounce back and will create a more drapey fabric and slouchier hat. A yarn that is denser or has more plies will create more defined stitches as well as adding weight to the final knit.
The beauty of knitting is that we as creators have the ability to make our project exactly the way we want. If you love the final object, that is the whole point. So have fun with it! Play around and knit something that is perfect for you.
