This pattern is featured in the inaugural issue of Common Threads magazine, Issue 001: Abundance! Check it out at Hudson Valley Textile Project. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this collaborative effort!

Cozy like your favorite boyfriend sweater, the Winterwork Shawl is the perfect late fall and winter accessory. Knit from the bottom up (once you get past that cast-on, it’s all downhill!), it features a trio of stitch patterns to keep the knitter engaged while adding lots of texture and visual interest.

Gauge is not critical, but please keep in mind that a different gauge will result in different finished dimensions as well as changing your yarn requirements. Please make sure you have sufficient yarn! Again, this shawl is worked from the bottom up so having enough yarn is critical.

The sample pictured was knit in Megs & Co’s Ghost Town DK in the ‘Weeping Willow’ colorway. Delightfully tonal and sublime!

The pattern has been professionally tech edited to reduce the potential for error.

CONSTRUCTION

Shawl is worked from the bottom up in two panels. Shawl selvedge is completed at top neck edge via Kitchener stitch.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Cable cast on
  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Cable stitches - 1/1 LPC,1/1 RPC,1/2 LC,1/2 RC
  • Decrease stitches - CDD, K2TOG, SSK
  • Slipped stitches
  • Kitchener Stitch - only a 3 st join, no worries!

INSTRUCTIONS

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

YARN NOTES

A heavy worsted or aran weight yarn with good stitch definition and little to no halo is recommended. Slight tonals work well, but highly variegated yarn will distract from the textured stitch patterns.

ADDITIONAL NOTIONS

You will also need:
Tapestry/blunt yarn needle
T-pins
