These mitts are knitted using Shetland yarn in traditional colours and motifs. They are knit from the bottom up in the round, starting and finishing with 2 colour corrugated rib (so no fiddly fingers!). The thumb gore is formed by increasing up one side of the hand. The pattern is the same on both sides of the hand so they can be worn on either hand. The pattern includes written instructions and charts. I have given 2 sizes Ladies medium and Gents medium. There are 7 colours used in total but as with traditional fair-isle only 2 colour per row. I use approximately 40 grams for the gents pair so you should be able to knit both pairs from 1 ball of each colour. I have given the colourway for Jamieson and Smith 2ply jumper weight and Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift. The first photo (the photo on the cover is J&S and the 2nd photo is Jamiesons Spindrift. The pattern is for experienced knitters but are quick to knit if you are used to stranded colourwork. I think they would also look nice in just 2 colours. They make a great gift and are very practical.
