Other than knitting, my passion is reading! As a school media specialist, I love helping students find new titles to enjoy reading. When our local fair had a drive to raise books and book totes for children, it was a combination of both of my passions! Books + crafts = one happy Jen! Desiring to help the cause, I set out to design and knit a tote bag and find an age appropriate book to tuck inside. This owl tote bag was just the trick to help make a child enjoy reading new books!

The tote bag is just the right size for tucking in a few favorite reads for the car, a trip to the library, or just toting around the house. I hope readers young and old are inspired to open their owl and find the treasure of reading inside!

This book tote bag is knit in the round on circular needles from the top down. The construction of the bag includes garter stitch and a dragon skin stitch to design the owl’s body. The wings and beak of the owl are sewn on felt and buttons are sewn on for the eyes. Cotton belt strap is used for the handle. Directions for an optional lining of the bag are included. Note: I used a smaller needle than recommended by the yarn to gain a tight knit fabric in order to prevent stretching of the tote when in use.
