Wisteria Mittens
Wisteria Mittens
Wisteria Mittens are soft and airy mittens worked with the characteristic heart-stitch structure that adorns several of my patterns. For these mittens, I chose to keep the heart-stitch in a single row in the middle of the upper side of the mitten, for a slightly more subdued expression. The mittens are worked in a blown yarn and are therefore both light, soft and warm. Since blown yarn is so forgiving in terms of knitting tension, you can experiment with adding a lace-weight silk mohair or alpaca, for an interesting effect. Wisteria Mittens go nicely together with several of my other garments with heart-stitch pattern, especially Aks Balaclava and Wisteria Neckwarmer which make a nice set (see example in the picture below).
Wisteria Mittens are worked from the wrist and up. A ribbed edge is worked around the wrist for a good fit. Next, the mitten itself is knitted at the same time as the heart-stitch is worked over the top of the hand. Stitches are set aside for the thumb and decreased are worked towards the fingertips. The thumb is knitted on last, except for the baby size which is thumbless.
The white baby mittens are knitted in CaMaRose Snefnug in color 7811 Snehvid (size 0-12 months). The pink mittens are knitted in color 7914 Støvet Rosa (size 2-4 years).
