I knitted this cowl with hand spun yarn, hand dyed with woad (hence the name). Any dk weight yarn that gives listed gauge would be a good substitute. The stitch pattern is very simple, but breaks the monotony of garter stitch without adding much difficulty to the knitting (only knit and purl involved). Instructions are given both in written form and as charts. To avoid having to sew the edges, the piece is knitted in the round with a circular needle, you can use 2 circulars or double pointed needles, which method you like best. I choose a cast on and bind off that would be elastic enough to make the garment easy to put on, but you can use whatever cast on or bind off you prefer.
