This pattern does not include instructions for a heel!

I do not feel the specific heel type used particularly adds anything to the look of the sock, and different heels will give better fits to different people, so I have chosen not to include one in this sock to allow you to choose the heel with the best fit for you. Any short row, mock short row, or forethought/afterthought heel will work in the pattern as written (the latter requires a slight modification, which is simple to do and is included in the pattern). The sample uses a boomerang heel, but Cat’s Sweet Tomato heel or the Fish Lips Kiss heel would also be excellent options. A heel flap and gusset would require modification as there are no gusset increases/decreases as written, but a knitter experienced in knitting this type of heel toe-up would have no trouble.

These are roughly an intermediate level pattern. No single technique is very complicated, but they do require basic knowledge of sock construction. They are knit toe-up and incorporate slip stitches, corrugated rib, very basic (just 2x2) stranded colorwork, and bobbles. There is a specific left and right sock, so the socks are mirror images of each other and the “seam” at the beginning of each row is always hidden on the inside of the leg. The stitch patterns are worked with leg shaping in mind, so the tighter patterns are at the narrowest point of the leg while the stretchier ones are where the leg is wider. I decided on the name because the slip stitches on the foot “wobble” from side to side. I hope you enjoy knitting these as much as I enjoyed designing them!

A Note on Sizing and Gauge

Stitch counts for four sizes are provided in this pattern. However, due to the required stitch counts for the different motifs, there is a fairly wide range in between sizes at a given gauge. Therefore, I have chosen not to provide an exact gauge for this pattern, but instead encourage you to choose the closest stitch count to your usual required size, and adjust the size further by altering your gauge. Swatching is not necessary; since this is a toe-up sock, you can simply guess at your size and cast on, as the toe is faster to knit than a swatch anyway. Try the toe on and make adjustments as necessary.

1- children’s medium/large
2- children’s extra large or women’s small
3- women’s medium/large or men’s small
4- men’s medium/large

It would also not be difficult to modify the pattern for smaller or larger sizes than those provided-any multiple of 8 for the total number of stitches around the circumference of the foot will work.

Yarn

Sample is knit in Knitpicks Stroll Hand Painted in the colorway “Gumball” and Lang Super Soxx Capital Cities in the colorway “Madrid.” The Stroll is color A and the Super Soxx is color B.

Two contrasting skeins (color A and color B) of 50g/200m each (100g/400m total) of any fingering weight sock yarn should be enough for all sizes. Slightly more is required of color A than of color B, so if using up leftovers and unsure of exact amounts, it is recommended to use the yarn you have more of as color A.

Any two sock yarns with a decent amount of contrast between them would work for this pattern. If using two different self-striping or variegated yarns, it is recommended to use the yarn with shorter color repeats as color A, and the yarn with longer color repeats as color B. Solids would give a very different effect from that of the sample, but the stitch patterns would certainly be visible. One self-striping and one solid yarn would give yet a different effect. These socks were created as an experiment in combining leftover partial skeins, so please feel free to experiment with any combination you like. They would also be fun as leftover scrappy socks!
