This deliciously cozy scarf/shawl is knitted from DK yarn. Crescent shaped with a stocking stitch background, the lower border has a lace motif knitted in every row rather than just in alternate rows, and the design automatically creates the points.

Knitting the pattern into every row (which technically is called ‘knitted lace’, rather than ‘lace knitting’ which is when the pattern is only knitted into alternate rows) is more challenging but also increases the fun, and the finished produt is so rewarding.

The Wollemi Pine Lace Shawl is named for the 1994 discovery of what was thought to be a long extinct tree. The fossils of Wollemia nobilis were 2 million years old but since the exciting discovery of fewer than 100 trees growing in the wild, this living fossil has been successfully propagated and reintroduced to the world. The shawl’s lace motif is the shape of a Wollemi Pine and is based on a traditional Orenburg lace motif.
