The ‘Woodland House’ is ..
A pincushion
A magical ‘little house of wool’ for play
A home decoration to display on a shelf

Recommended Yarn …

Jamieson’s of Shetland ‘Spindrift’ is recommended for the pattern due to its unique properties. The yarn’s robust and rustic nature creates a special little house and a wonderfully stable fabric on which to add the simple (optional) hand embroidery.

Embroidery …

Crewel Wool is used in the pattern for the embroidery (links in pattern). The thread is 100% animal fibre, a perfect match for the yarn used in this pattern and inexpensive. It comes in a vast array of shades and a small amount goes a long way.

A basic understanding of simple embroidery techniques will be helpful for this project although a unique little house can be created without the addition of the decorative stitching. You may also want to add your own unique touches to your woolly home!

Knitting Method …

Worked ‘in the round’ in one piece then the base is quickly added to finish.

Basic knitting stitches are used and the pattern requires just one easy round of stranded colourwork.

The pattern uses Double Pointed Knitting Needles. As the House is essentially round it shouldn’t be difficult to use an alternative favourite method for small circumference knitting.

Construction …

The House has a unique construction which creates stability and a perfect canvas to add some simple optional embroidery.

The House is fulled after knitting (quick and easy) which again helps to create the lovely base for the embroidery.

The Door and Windows are added to complete and then some simple stitching is applied to decorate.

Several examples of Woodland Houses are included in the pattern for shade ideas.
