This fairisle tote is inspired by the woodland forest and its many creatures including birds and squirrels! This fairisle design is identical on the front and the back of the bag.

The bag is knit in the round from the bottom up. Then the bottom cast on edge is sewn together to close the bottom. The strap is knit separately flat and then sewn to the bag.

The sample is knit with fingering weight yarn and 3mm needles, Jamieson’s 2-Ply Spindrift (Shetland Wool) with two colours: 4 balls of Celtic (790) and 2 balls of Port Wine (293). One ball is 25 grams / 105 meters. A heavier weight yarn could be used alternatively to make for a larger size bag.

The bag can be knit in stranded fairisle entirely or closer to the top can switch to intarsia to avoid carrying the background colour for larger number of stitches.

Hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy knitting!
