Wool Market Bag, Versions 1 & 2.

The Wool Market bag is a market bag! It may or may not be made from wool; it may or may not be taken to a wool market as your self-made tote. I would probably strongly advise trying cotton, unless you want to felt this down into a smaller clutch, because the wool feels fragile for heavy produce or a larger wool-market haul. I still like the name for being slightly confusing, though: wool market bag? Woolmarket bag?

Knit the original with a Japanese knot bag style handle, or make it a a short-handled graspable supermarket tote; the pattern updates will include both styles. Felting/fulling is recommended for the wool version; it makes a neat little 9.5” tall project bag with a secure knot closure.

Materials:
About 276-300 yards of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool
1 pair of straight needles, or a circular used for flat knitting, in US5/3.75mm or size needed for gauge; 1 16”-24” circular needle in US 7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:
Gauge for the smaller needles is 20 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm, in lightly blocked garter stitch.
Gauge for the larger needles is 16 sts and 26 rows over 4”/10cm, in blocked seed stitch (or moss stitch, depending on your locale).

At different points in this project, you’ll be asked to work flat and in the round.
