Wool Vessel 2!

Wool Vessel 2 is the fourth project in the Summer Kitchen series! The whole idea is similar to Wool Vessel, but this adds a new shape and a handy (and fairly cute) handle/fastening system.

It looks best overstuffed, but if you felt/full the project to a good density, it will keep its shape to some degree even when it’s empty. Use it for storage, or as a small, rustic tote.

Keep in mind that this is another multidisciplinary project—it’s knit and then fulled/felted to create a dense storage-suitable finished piece. If you’re substituting yarns, be sure the wool you use felts well—no superwash for this one!

Materials:

  • 590 yards or 3 skeins of Patons Classic Wool, sample shown in Natural Marl
  • 1 24” circular needle US9/5.5mm, or size needed for gauge.
  • 4+ removable stitch markers
  • One crochet hook, in size suited to yarn
  • Smooth scrap yarn for a provisional crochet bind-off
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge before felting is 14 sts and 28 rows over 4”/10cm in garter stitch, worked flat. If your gauge is very different, you may need more yarn for this project.
