Seed Pod is a wonderful opportunity to put buttons on things. It’s also a round version of Project Pod that doesn’t require a hook or a cabrabiner; it uses a large button (1.5-2”) instead.

It’s a pretty satisfying knitting and felting project, with good functionality once it’s finished.

Knit the Seed Pod for a felted project-pod-style vessel to keep your yarn neat, or use it as a container for small household items. The large wooden button and i-cord fastener gives this pod a more organic, rustic look.

Be sure to use feltable wool—not superwash—for best results! Well, for results at all, really. The felting is a pretty important part of this.

The sample shown is knit from Paton’s Classic Wool in Light Grey. It took 230 yards.

Materials:

  • 230 yards feltable wool—shown Paton’s Classic Wool in light grey
  • 1 16-24” circular needle in US7-8/4.5-5.0mm, or size needed for gauge. (Work is both flat and in the round.)
  • 1 set of 5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
  • crochet hook (for circular cast-on)
  • Tapestry needle
  • 8 removable stitch markers
  • A large button - 1.5-2”
  • Sharp needle, if necessary

Gauge:
Pre-felting, gauge is 16 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of unblocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge!

Measurements:
Measurements will ultimately depend on gauge and fulling. As shown, the sample measures 8.5”/22cm tall and 6”/15cm at the base.
