The hood is shaped to be narrow at the front and then widens at the back, preventing excess fabric at the crown. The hood is designed to comfortably envelop the face.
The ribbing at the neck is of an appropriate length to naturally block wind.
The top-down construction allows for easy length adjustments.

This hood is seamlessly worked top-down in one piece. After cast-on edge, increases are worked to shape from the head. The piece is worked back and forth between right and wrong sides, and then the yarn is changed for the bottom ribbing. The hood edge is picked up sts from the right side around the ridged include necking edge, and then folded in half for bind off. A crochet chain or knitted i-cord is added to create a loop for the button.

MATERIALS:
A (Main color): 2 skeins of Hamanaka Sonomono Loop (60% Wool, 40% Alpaca), 40 g / 38 m (42 yard) per skein
B (Contrast color): 1 skein of Linea Champ (held double), (56% Cotton, 27% Wool, 17% Alpaca), 50 g / 170 m (186 yard) per skein
C (Ribbing): 1 skein of Linea Champ (single strand), (same composition as B)

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES:
Two Circular needles
US 10.75, 7.0mm knitting needle.
US 8, 5.0mm knitting needle.

Gauge
Stitch pattern (Yarns A & B): 11 sts × 19 rows = 9.5 × 9.5 cm² (4” × 4”) using 7.0 mm (US10.75) needles 1×1 Rib (Yarn C): 22 sts × 26 rows = 10 × 10 cm² (4” × 4”) using 5.0 mm (US 8) needles
