Pattern description
This pattern is for a wreath decoration for a Christmas tree. The pattern has a firm texture and holds it shape well. Make matching wreaths for a themed tree, or use cotton from your stash for a colourful effect. The final wreath will be ~8.5 cm across. It is written in UK and US crochet terms.

This pattern uses variations of the UK double crochet (US single crochet) and is suitable for improving beginners. The pattern includes written instructions for new techniques such as the invisible join and the extended double crochet. The pattern includes a chart.

You can use any worsted/aran yarn you have to hand. Aran/worsted weight cotton gives a firmer fabric, but acrylic can be blocked firmly and stiffened using PVA glue. If using another yarn weight, use as small a hook as possible to keep the fabric firm. Note the size of the wreath will change accordingly.

To complete this ornament as displayed you will also need:

  1. Aran/worsted weight cotton-rich yarn (6-7m of white and 6-7m of red).
  2. A 3mm (D/3) hook to create a dense, firm structure.
  3. 1 x 5.5cm diameter wooden curtain ring with a hanging screw – these rings are usually sized for a 2.8cm (28mm) curtain pole.
  4. 1 x embellishment for your wreath, this could be a button, bow, or other festive ornament. The example in the photo uses a felt decoration designed to embellish a greetings card.
  5. A short ribbon or cord to hang up your decoration.
  6. A yarn needle to sew in the ends.
  7. A sewing needle and thread (or glue) to attach your embellishment.

This is not a toy.
Do not hang near to flames, lights or other heat sources.
