When I saw that National Novel Writing Month has a new house scarf for sale, I decided I wanted to make my own. Just the stripes, mind you, with the little shield and helmet as accents. I even received permission to post it as a free pattern.

I have not started knitting it yet, but we all know that November is coming. Anyone comfortable with knitting in the round, doing stripes, and reading charts should be able to follow my recipe easily enough, or adapt the charts for use in other projects. One chart was made by copying the given scarf exactly, thanks to a lovely close-up image. The other has a little more detail. You can download the recipe and either chart individually.

The third chart, added September 14, is based off of the duplicate stitching I’ve done on my own scarf. The shield design is narrower and might better suit the look of your gauge.

If you knit this scarf and love it, please consider donating to NaNoWriMo.

Thank you to the Eat.Sleep.Knit staff for helping me with color matching. They suggested Cascade 220 Superwash in 897 and 863.
