Re-create the traditional socks and leggings worn by Sarakatsani women. With colorwork based on the original geometric folk patterns, the thick knitted fabric mimics a pair Mimi saw during a trip to Xanthi, Greece.

Materials

  • Imperial Yarn McKenzie, 100% wool, fingering weight, 220 yard (201.2 m)/50 gram (1.76 oz) skein
  • Socks: 2 skeins Black; 1 skein each Natural, Merlot, and Moss
  • Leggings: 2 skeins each Black and Natural
  • Needles, size 1 (2.25 mm) two circular (cir) 16” (40 cm), or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stitch markers
  • Two size 0 (2 mm) cir needle 16” (40 cm), optional for picking up stitches
  • Crochet hook size 00 (1.75 mm)
