Gauge is not particularly important for this felted project.

If you wish to make the bowl smaller, cast on fewer stitches by sixes.
When decreasing for the bottom, start one row further in the decrease rows for each six less cast on stitches.

You may use a double strand of worsted weight wool to substitute for the bulky.
