Description:
The Year Round Shawl is a pattern for any season in your life.
Choose any yarn weight, any fiber content, and almost any amount of yarn, and work this relaxing and repetitive pattern as many times as you want.
Choose multicolored hand dyed yarn or solid color, or add several colors, and you’ll get a unique result every time.
The shawl has a symmetrical triangular shape and works from the neck down, gradually expanding.

Skills:
You need to know how to knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog, ssk, and reverse yarn over.

Materials:
Yarn: any weight yarn between fingering and worsted.
Fingering approx. 985 yds (900 m) or more.
DK/Sport approx. 500 yds (455 m) or more.
Worsted/Aran approx. 450 yds (410 m) or more.

Samples nr. 1-3 are made with 2 skeins (4 oz (113 g) each), sample nr. 4 uses 2 strands of fingering, which equals worsted weight, and uses 3 skeins.

1. Fingering (blue tones): Brick House Fiber Arts Boardwalk fingering, 51% organic cotton, 49% bamboo rayon, 495 yds (452 m)/4 oz (113 g), color Boardwalk;
2. DK (yellow-brown): Interlacements Novelty Zig Zag, 525 yds (480 m)/8 oz (226 g), Cotton-Rayon-Nylon blend, color Desert Lichen;
3. Worsted (white-moss-blue): Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted Multi, 100% merino, 225 yds (206 m)/4 oz (113 g), color 912 Kedzie;
4. Fingering holding double strands = Worsted (neon-orange): Yarn Bee Authentic Hand-Dyed, 100% merino, 400 yds (366 m)/3.5 oz (100 g), colors Flower Fusion and Coral Carrot.

Needles: circular needles 32” (80 cm) or longer, depending on the yarn weight
Fingering: size US 4 (3.5 mm)
DK/Sport: size US 6 (4 mm)
Worsted/Aran: size US 7 (4.5 mm)
Or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions: marker, tapestry needle, scissors, blocking mat & pins (or combs)

Gauge:
in garter stitch pattern, blocked.
Fingering: 15 sts x 48 rows = 4x4” (10x10 cm)
DK/Sport: 14 sts x 40 rows = 4x4” (10x10 cm)
Worsted/Aran: 13 sts x 32 rows = 4x4” (10x10 cm)
The exact gauge is not crucial, but a different gauge will affect finished measurements and yarn usage.

Size: Any size, customizable
Finished measurements of samples:
a - wingspan; b - spine length

1. Fingering: a = 92” (230 cm), b = 34” (85 cm)
2. DK/sport and 4. Double fingering: a = 84” (210 cm), b = 31” (77 cm)
3. Worsted/Aran: a = 68” (170 cm), b = 26.5” (66 cm)
